40% faster. Zero hardware headaches. SAP on AWS.
How Line Plast Group eliminated the performance bottlenecks of on-premise SAP Business One and moved to a fully managed AWS cloud environment, without disrupting their operations.
The Company
Total packaging
solutions, under
one roof.
In Nairobi's Industrial Area, Line Plast Group manufactures the bottles, containers, and packaging that hold Kenya's edible oils, pharmaceuticals, soft drinks, and dairy products. Two integrated entities serve the full lifecycle from moulding to label design, employing over 180 permanent staff.
When the company joined the Kenya Plastics Pact in 2023, committing to circular economy principles, it signalled the ambition of a business thinking seriously about its future. That same forward-looking mindset led them to Kitsilano Technologies.

The Challenge

Before
On-premise SAP, limited scalability, no tested disaster recovery
The system had
served them well.
But growth had
outpaced it.
For years, SAP Business One ran Line Plast's operations from on-premise servers. As the business scaled, more product lines, more customers, more data, the environment began to show strain.
Slowdowns appeared during busy production periods. The IT team spent more time maintaining hardware than enabling growth. And when the question arose of what would happen if a server failed, there was no reassuring answer.
Performance degradation under load during peak manufacturing periods
Unsustainable maintenance costs on aging on-premise hardware
No disaster recovery, single-location storage with no tested restore
In Their Words
“The transition from on-premise to AWS cloud was seamless. The Kitsilano Technologies team includes SAP Specialists, making the entire process stress-free.”
Line Plast Group, Management Team
The Approach

Two-tier AWS architecture
Database and application workloads isolated on separate, purpose-sized EC2 instances
Purpose-built for SAP.
Zero changes to the
application.
Kitsilano Technologies designed a dedicated two-tier AWS architecture for Line Plast's SAP environment, separating the database layer from the application layer with purpose-selected EC2 instance types from AWS's SAP-certified instance list.
No application code changes. No operational disruption. The migration cutover was planned and executed to coincide with a low-activity window, ensuring Line Plast's teams experienced nothing more than a routine restart.
Database tier, r5.xlarge EC2 and 300GB EBS, memory-optimised for SQL
Application tier, m5.2xlarge EC2 dedicated to SAP B1 and Active Directory
Disaster recovery, automated EBS snapshots to S3 Standard-IA, 30-day retention
The Outcome
A manufacturing ERP that finally keeps pace with the business.
40%
Improvement in system performance
30%
Data volume increase, zero degradation
0
Business disruptions during migration
30 days
Automated backup retention
